Local Resident Access
For Residents/Local Access to Sandwich:
No residents can access Sandwich via the Toll Bridge daily between 6am and 10pm.
A local resident sticker is required for access to Sandwich via Deal Road from the South. Please expect long delays on this road, particularly from 7am-11am and 4pm-8pm
Residents and public wishing to access Sandwich Town Centre or exit Sandwich are advised to use the following 2 "loop" routes (marked in red) which do not require a Local Resident Sticker to Access:
(1) Woodnesborough Road, Moat Sole, Cattle Market, Harnet Street, Strand Street, High Street, The Chain, Galliard Street, New Street, Cattle Market, Moat Sole and Woodnesborough Road
Please note there will be a "left turn only" in force at the exit of St Bart's Road into New Street and a "no entry" at the Southern exit from Galliard Street into New Street.
Access to and from the Quay will be maintained at its junction with the High Street.
Please note that this route will be busier between 2pm and 10pm daily as exiting Golf traffic has the option to access the town centre.
(2) Ash Road, Strand Street, High Street, The Chain, Galliard Street, New Street, Cattle Market, Harnet Street, Strand Street and Ash Road.
Please note there will be a "no entry" at the Southern exit from Galliard Street into New Street.
Access to and from the Quay will be maintained at its junction with the High Street.
Please note that this route will be busier between 2pm and 10pm daily as exiting Golf traffic has the option to access the town centre.
For Residents/Local Access to North Deal:
Residents will need a local resident permit to access Ancient Highway from Golf Road at the junction with Ethelbert Road. This police checkpoint is shown below by a green circle.
No horses or cyclists are allowed on the Ancient Highway between this checkpoint and Sandwich Bay Estate from 12th to 17th July.
The Ancient Highway will be one-way northbound between 6am and 2pm daily and one-way southbound between 2pm and 10pm.
Please note Golf Road will be closed immediately south of its junction with Godwyn Road (marked with a red X)
Please note Ethelbert Road will be closed at its junction with Golf Road (marked below with a red X)
Residents of Ethelbert Road and Canute Road can access their properties via Sandown Road (highlighted in blue)
Traffic management will be in place to provide access to Cinque Ports Golf Club and Redhouse Wall at all times.
Access for Eythorne/Elvington:
Due to traffic management in place for the park and ride facility at Barville Farm, the exit from Kennel Hill onto A256 Northbound Carriageway will be closed daily between 6am and 11am (shown by red cross on map). Please note that the Police may need to close this slip in the afternoon if the park and ride contingency plan is needed. This is most likely to occur between 4pm and 8pm.
Residents wanting to travel towards Dover can follow Kennel Hill and Sandwich Road to the A2 Whitfield Roundabout. Residents wanting to travel towards Sandwich and Thanet can use Barville Road or follow Kennel Hill and Sandwich Road. The exit slip onto the A256 at the most northern end of Whitfield (near Eastling Down Farm) will remain open.
Please note the exit from A256 Northbound into Kennel Hill will also remain open. Please allow extra time for journeys when using the A256 in both directions. Please expect delays from 6am to 10pm daily on Barville Road due to the increase in traffic volume using the park and ride facility.
Access for Tilmanstone:
Due to traffic management in place for the park and ride facility at Barville Farm, the off slip from A256 Northbound into Dover Road, Tilmanstone will be closed at all times from 6am Tuesday 12th July until 10pm Sunday 17th July (shown by red cross on map). Residents are advised to access Tilmanstone from the A256 via Barville Road. Please allow extra time for journeys when using the A256 in both directions.
The slip onto the A256 from Dover Road will remain Open and provide a dedicated running lane to the Eastry roundabout. This route will be utilised by Park and Ride buses
Venson Road, Eastry
Due to traffic management in place for the park and ride facility, it is necessary to close Venson Road at it's junction with the A256 Northbound Carriageway at all times from 6am Tuesday 12th July until 10pm Sunday 17th July (shown by red cross on map). The diversion route for access to A256 is Pike Road and Dover Road, Eastry. For access to Venson Road, the diversion is the reverse (the diversion route is shown in blue below). Please allow extra time for journeys when using the A256 in both directions.
